“KEEP
THE PLEDGE”
State Dept. of Revenue figures show that our state has collected $100 million more in tax revenue than anticipated this year. With the cash reserve holding $474 million, $58 million more than in FY 2006-07, Nebraska Taxpayers for Freedom is calling on state senators to honor a pledge made by their predecessors during the 2003 session, when the legislature raised taxes during a recession. In that session, senators promised that their tax hike would be temporary. “We are asking every senator to pledge to roll back state income and sales taxes to the level that they were before the 2003 tax hikes,” said Doug Kagan, NTF chairman. “Beleaguered taxpayers deserve consideration from this surplus over special interests who undoubtedly will jockey to direct the surplus revenue to additional spending largesse,” added Kagan.
Nebraska Taxpayers for Freedom soon will circulate pledge cards for senators to sign onto tax relief.
